Whatever!

Toronto's a noisy city, but you don't have to listen too hard to hear the knives being sharpened down at the ACC.

In true fashion, the Maple Leafs are stinking out the joint and even for this band-wagon jumping city, I think it's fair to say most of us have had more than enough.

Last night's win does nothing to fix the problem. I mean, it's their third victory in their last 14-games! And all I know is if I was one of the poor sods out there who forked-over hundreds of thousands of dollars and their first born son for season's tickets, I'd be pissed beyond belief!

Let's face it, the Leafs really haven't been that exciting to watch since Dougie G lead the team in the 90's. We've put up with somewhat-spirited seasons and even logged some time in the playoffs since. But now, it's gone beyond the point of a bad losing skid.

The turmoil, non-stop infighting and drama up top is leaking onto the ice and is closely rivaling the days when crotchety old Harold Ballard ran the place. We've once again become the laughing stock of the NHL. But it's not just the team everyone's laughing at, it's you.

It's because of all us fans the Leafs continue to be the top earning team in the league, raking in hundreds of millions of dollars. And MLSE's profit margin has only gotten better in the New Ice Age because of the salary cap that prevents them from inking injury-prone, over-the-hill players to hefty, long-term deals. Though they still try.

The rumours are flying General Manager John Ferguson is getting the boot. Rightfully so. There are also reports former golden boy and one-time GM Cliff Fletcher's been asked to step in temporarily.

My favourite rumour is the most successful coach in NHL history, the amazing Scotty Bowman himself, will come out of retirement and help stop the bleeding on a management level. But the question remains, does he want to put his platinum-coated reputation and record on the line?

As much as I'd love to see him here, I'd stay as far away from this car crash as possible, because this wreck is about to blow.

But Whatever!
