New Words

The people at Merriam-Webster just released their list of nominees for the 2007 Word of the Year. You can vote until Friday for which word you want to win.

We're not seeing any runaway favorite . . . like last year's Word of the Year, truthiness (--from "The Colbert Report") . . . but here are some of the better choices . . .

--BABYMOON. "A short vacation for a couple before the birth of their child."
--CHARLATAN. "Quack. One making usually show pretenses to knowledge or ability. Fraud."
--FACEBOOK. "To get on [the] Facebook website."
--PUGNACIOUS. "Having a quarrelsome or combative nature."

--QUIXOTIC. "Foolishly impractical, especially in the pursuit of ideals."

--SPUTUM. "Expectorated matter, especially from the air passages in diseases of the lungs, bronchi or upper respiratory tract." (M-W.com)
