Whatever!

WHATEVER!!!

Everybody's got their favourite TV show and one of mine happens to be The Mercer Report.

Being a fan, or foe, of politics, I really enjoy it when anyone takes a bite out of over-paid, spoiled-rotten politicians who think they're too good for just about everything. And for some reason Rick Mercer does it so well and most of the time, we agree on things, which is always a plus!

So on last night's show, former Prime Minister Jean Chretien was on, plugging his memoirs. You may have heard several weeks back when some excerpts from his book were released to tantalize the public to buy, buy, buy!

One of the leaks included Chretien bashing his replacement, Paul Martin. He never did much for me, nor did Chretien, and its a well known fact these guys did not like each other, back-stabbed on another and split the Liberal party in at least two-warring factions over their mutual spitefulness.

I understand in an autobiography, you tackle touchy and controversial topics that sprouted-up in your lifetime, but something has got to be said for good taste.

In now scandal-plagued former PM Brian Mulroney's book, he bashed Pierre Trudeau, another former Prime Minister, who's been 6-feet under for years and clearly unable to contest Mulroney's claims.

Such a move is so clearly lame and beyond embarrassingly gauche, but you have to give some points in this unsportsmanlike game to Chretien, for at least talking trash about a man who's still alive and able to defend his name.

Granted, honour isn't something most politicians have, especially the high ranking ones.

But you'd think these one-time leaders of our country, high-powered men and their millions of dollars and fancy life-styles would have some kind of class. And yet here's another example of how money can't buy everything.

But Whatever!
