So, you probably heard JJ & Melanie talking yesterday about a couple of knock-out Hollywood stars who had a Battle of Bodily Functions recently. Glamour queen Eve Mendes likes to toot, while Cameron Diaz prefers to belch.
It sparked a lot of debate on and off air about women letting loose and behaving naturally, or at least as openly as men do.
I have yet to be with a guy who doesn't let 'em rip, although it’s probably because I can't stop giggling when they do and I'm a huge fan of potty humour in general.
Personally, I'll burp in front of pretty much anyone, so long as they're not the ferocious gutter-ball kind you get when you drink a lot of Pepsi. Passing gas for an audience however, is a hill I have yet to climb.
Honestly, I think people's behaviour, preferences and perceptions around bodily functions has everything to do with your upbringing.
My mum referred to it as 'breaking wind' when we were young, which I always thought was totally hilarious! It made the whole act sound so magnificent and regal, as if releasing gas should be set to a Beethoven symphony!
Some men think women who act naturally are unladylike and unrefined, but it seems as if the majority of guys out there really don't care and actually appreciate the confidence it takes a woman to just let it all out!
I mean really, when you're in a relationship, isn't the goal always to be yourself? To be accepted, loved and adored completely for all you are and all you do?
Who wants to be in a relationship with someone who's perfect? Where's the entertainment, drama, intimacy and hilarity in that?
It's the odd and maybe not so socially acceptable things you remember and admire about each other. Sure, you'll recall your last boyfriend or girlfriend being really nice, or cute or whatever. But you'll always look back and laugh at the funny things they did in private, that made them unique to you and no one else.
So I say let loose and be yourself...just give some warning and maybe carry some matches too!
But Whatever!
